Wurming Along…

img_0785knit1 I had to frog my progress last week as I finally realised that my head is a lot bigger than i think it is. Must be all the additional packing material that’s up there..

The first part of this pattern calls for double pointed needles which are definitely not my favourite part of knitting. They always seem so awkward at the beginning, and once you become familiar with using them again, the pattern calls for circular needles ;)

img_0786knit2 At this point in time I am about 1/3 of the way through the pattern….most of this is just repetitive purling and knitting different rounds, but i can definitely see how the hat is coming together and I am pretty excited about it :) I’m still hoping that i’ll have it done and be able to wear it before it gets a tad too hot for knitted hats

Wurm..

After work on Saturday I went for a walk down to the new(ish) yarn store in Old Town – Fibre space. I had a pattern in mind that I had found on Ravelry a few months ago…the Wurm (pls note – links to a .pdf file) :)

The store itself is totally awesome, a very warm welcoming environment…for the first time in a knitting store i actually felt comfortable enough to browse as long as i wanted. I had actually spotted the yarn i ended up buying right as I walked in the store, but i decided to keep looking in case something else grabbed my fancy :) I was taken by a few other yarns, but i think i will save my pennies and go back again in a month or two to get more pretties..

This is the beautiful hand-dyed Madelinetosh yarn that i ended up getting for my new hat. I grabbed a set of dpn’s as well as some interchangeable circular needles, which i need for this project and will certainly be handy to have in the future. I cast on over the weekend and am actually speeding through the beginning of the pattern – this was after I made the Wee-b sit with his arms outstretched for half an hour as I hand-wound the yarn into a ball. I think i may need to look into a ball winder for the future. Knitting on four dpn’s always seems so daunting, but after a while you hit a bit of a rhythm and it all comes together. Soon i can switch over to the circular needles which makes things a lot easier and a hell of a lot faster.

It feels good to be knitting again. Last weekend I managed to finish a third mouse fillet, so I just need to felt and stuff them, then I can send them off to their new homes. According to others who have knitted the Wurm, its a fairly straight forward and fun pattern so I’m looking forward to getting it finished so that I can wear it before winter is all over red rover.
