To Carry on or not to carry on…

So I’m heading home shortly….and its a long-ass flight. My total travel time this go round is about 27 hours – yay! So the one thing I always make sure, is that I have more than enough to keep myself busy. I am pretty good at sleeping on flights, but I tend to stay awake regardless. So what am I taking in my carry on bag…

carryon

1. Ponds fresh wipes – these are FANTASTIC for long flights. I try to minimize the amount of liquids and stuff I take on so that there is less time caught up in security (don’t worry – it still doesn’t work). These wipes are basically my make-do face wash for the flight itself and layovers.

2. Carmex lip balm – I cannot stress this enough. LIP BALM! LIP BALM! LIP BALM! Air travel can be REALLY drying and if you are anything like me (don’t be like me) you minimize the amount of liquids you drink so that you don’t have to use those airplane toilets (eesh). I know. I am a bad..don’t tell my mum.

3. Professor Layton – this is some serious entertainment. I love love love this series – I have all the games so far except for the newest one as I do not yet have a Nintendo 3DS. Perhaps one day, probably by the time I finish the last Layton game i own, I will convince myself its a necessary purchase ;-)

4. Big Red – no words necessary. I am addicted to Big Red, and its the best way to keep your mouth cinnamony (real word) fresh while flying. SRS.

5. Burt’s Bees Aloe & Witch Hazel Hand Sanitizer. I know I said I try to minimize liquids while flying, but this is a must have. Hand Sanitizer that contains no alcohol, doesn’t dry your hands out and actually smells good? Sign me up!

6. Travel hair brush. As much as I know my parents love me, I would prefer to step off the plane looking as least like Cousin It as possible. Hence the hair brush – it even has a handy dandy mirror, Blue!

7. Pen – Helloooooo Custom Forms. Also, try not to spill OJ all over yourself and the Custom Forms right after take off and just before a 14 hour flight. Not that that happened to me or anything..

8. Kindle – I never travel without a book or five hundred. I have jammed my Kindle full of books and tried to keep it out of my site for the last month so that I am not tempted to read everything before I step on the plane. So far so good…but there are still 3 more sleeps to go…

So…my bags are (mostly) packed and I am (somewhat) ready to go!

Spring Break

The Wee-b and I headed back to the beach this weekend to pick up the littleb after his spring break. We managed to jump in the car with the Giz around 3 on Saturday afternoon and got there just after 7. Pretty awesome timing considering that we were driving in the middle of the day on Easter weekend.

We parked the car and got the Giz situated and then headed around the side of the house so that we could throw out some of the trash that we had amassed on the way there. Just as we opened the gate we were confronted with the littleb, silly string and a ton of balloons! It was a massacre. We were hit from all directions. Not to mention that the kiddo had told us he hadn’t had his hair cut and we were then presented with this..

Apparently this was our April Fools joke…Funny kid :) He and I have been playing Pokemon on the DS and he went to the trouble of putting together a pokedex for me which is pretty neat. Now we’e both playing the same version of Pokemon, which means we can battle against each other…although im not really looking forward to having my butt handed to me on a silver platter.

The three of us jumped on the bed after dinner and relaxed for an hour or so to try and wind down after the drive. Man…i have the big <3 for my little family.

We decided to stay the night on Saturday night and drive home on Sunday like we did the previous weekend. It was actually a really nice drive home, we stopped a couple of times along the way to stretch and eat, but we still made it home around 5pm. The Giz is super happy to have his buddy home again.

and another week

bites the dust.

How has this year gone by so quickly? I mean, really. Year…you are on notice. Well not really…it’s been a pretty damn good year all told, but i’m not complaining that its almost over. 10 more days and i’ll be jumping a plane to head home for the holidays. I am looking forward to it…being able to see my family again, and probably bleed the breaks on the landy (Dad…get ‘em ready!) the one thing I am really not looking forward to is the 11 hour layover in Heathrow. But…one of my old workmates from Perth (Thanks Crispy!) mailed me some passes for the Qantas business lounge, so at least i will have access to some snacks and coffee…perhaps some free internet access too.

I have been buying some of the books on my wishlist over the last couple of months and hiding them from myself in preparation for this flight. I can’t even recall exactly what i have hidden away, but between my books, DS and PSP i think i should almost have enough entertainment to keep myself (mostly) out of trouble :)

And just so no one is disappointed..

Giz and the Wee-b

Big news on the horizon….big, square, walled type news ;)
