Report – To do list

For the record…i am actually quite proud of myself and my progress on my to-do list. I managed to get almost all of it completed, other than the de-weeding and the sweeping. We’ll blame the rain for that one and i’ll try and get it done during the week instead

Got up early on Saturday morning and took the moo-cow dog for a walk. Drank coffee and built up some hit points for the day ahead. We left the house around 10am in order to hit the jewelry store once they had opened. Luckily for me, this store really stands behind its products and offered to fix (what was in my humble opinion) a badly designed clasp. Oh wait. No they didn’t…they asked me to pay for the repair and I told them I would rather have it repaired locally.

Thanks Tiffany’s, it’s always nice to know how much you care about your clientele

Next stop – Autozone! I love this place..they never treat me like I am stupid and without fail, they always go the extra mile. We were assisted by Scot who walked us through step by step on how to recharge our air con systems (both cars are in the midst of menopause at the moment). He even walked us out to our car, popped the hood and pointed out the Low side port. Now that’s customer service

Arctic Freeze, lightbulb – check!

And then…Home Depot for mulch. Easy in, easy out. Grabbed two bags and we were on our way.

Oh Orange – everything should be this easy

Sunday.
We started with a yummy brunch at the Silver Diner. B had a birthday card from them, so we only had to pay for one meal…and we got a free desert.

Every Sunday should start like this :)

Stopped to grab all our groceries and then home to vacuum the car!

Dog hair free broom-broom!

So lets see…
Back yard – mulched
Car – clean, cold and well lit
Bracelet – working on it
Pipe – cut. There was totally gross stuff in there.

Feels good to cross stuff off the list! Only thing I am really missing is the Roman Shade. But i kind of got sidetracked with a new crafty project. One that, according to my scientific calculations, should take only about 3.4 years to complete. Photos will be forthcoming ;)

Get er done

If i write it down, i can cross it off…and thats the fun part!

todolist

Now if only I can get this all completed on Saturday…

Weekend plans

So my weekend was thoroughly successful :) Between the three of us, we managed to clean the house from top to bottom…and we even mowed the lawn. Note to self: NEVER let the grass get that long again. Lordy, lordy Janelle.

I jumped up the back and started fussing with some of the Creeping Jenny plants. By locating some of the smaller plants, I was able to separate them and move them around a little bit. The creeping jenny has covered the front of the garden beautifully, but I want it to spread backwards aswell…so i’m just lending a helping hand ;)

I also managed to create my Terrarium! The Wee-b had suggested that I use a glass container that was gifted to us by Linda and Bill. Apparently…it’s a fly catcher! We are missing the glass top, but it’s definitely the perfect little container for a neat terrarium and now it’s being used and on display.

We headed out to Wolftrap Nursery on Saturday evening to pick out a Bonsai tree for the littleb as a late birthday present. While we were there I grabbed a couple Dwarf Asparagus Ferns, some Golden Spike Moss and a single White Rabbits Foot Fern to add to my terrarium…I also found a little fishing mudman – how could i say no?

I won’t go into the step by step details of how to put together a terrarium, as there are more than enough pages on the web dedicated to that already…but I did follow the instructions I found here and went with fresh and dried moss as opposed to charcoal as my terrarium is not going to be completely closed.

To-Do List

I figure it’s well past time for me to make an updated to-do list of small projects that I would like to accomplish around the house. We’re still busy saving for some of the bigger plans (new sectional sofa, carpet tiles for the den and laminate flooring for the master bedroom) but i have supplies here for some little bits and pieces.

1. Just get it done already – My faux Roman Shade for our currently nakey Kitchen window.

I mean, seriously? I have the fabric…I have the lining…I even have the wood board. I just need to get off my butt and sew this bad boy up.

2. Organize the damn pantry.

I love, love, love the look of these…and now that we have been working on going completely Gluten-free, we have a ton of new baking supplies that need a little extra oomph in the ‘look-good’ category. I need to make a list of jar sizes and pick some up next time I am near the Crate and Barrel outlet. But in the meantime I want to work on these labels in PS and create some for the bizarre flours we have (Sorghum anyone?)

3. Sand and refinish the bedside tables

I’m still trying to decide on a final color…But i think we might go with black. That way we can go silly with the accessories ;)

4. Put together our photo wall in the Dining Room

I have some frames that I picked up in all different shapes and sizes, along with serval different items that I want to toss at the wall. I really need to get on this and pull everything together as that is one big white boring wall right now.

5. Create a terrarium

I have been wanting to do this for aaaaages. Now that I have one (1) of my side tables in the Living Room completed, I have a home for a Terrarium to sit on!

6. Re-make fishy coasters…

Source: hostessblog.com via Leanne on Pinterest

Sad face. Lets just say that my cutie coasters suffered a nuclear meltdown when I sat them all on top of each other to add weight to help the felt bottoms dry. I’m sure you can see where this sad story ends…I managed to create a coaster sandwich. Not so crafty ;)

….so, what to tackle first?

1/4 Round

I got home from work on Saturday and the boys (Poppy Jack & Wee-b) had gone to Lumber Liquidators to pick up 11 lengths of the quarter round we needed to finish off the flooring in the Living Room. As well as the quarter round, they had stopped in at Home Depot to rent a nailgun for the day.

AWESOME.

img_0774

After successfully not nailing any part of my body, or anyone elses for that matter, we called the job DONE.

Sexy.

Poppy Jack had to make some little fixes to the door area that involved him ripping out most of the first row. I was not present for this step, which was probably a good thing as later he told me he had no idea what he was doing…but the end result was that his fix worked and our flooring fits around the door frame perfectly now.

A quick trip around the room to hammer some of the nails in with a nail punch (our compressor had a leak so the pressure was varying here and there), wood putty and a colour stick and Bob’s your uncle.
img_2012terraset

Well actually he is my uncle, but that’s a story for another day.

Living room painted? Yesssir.

img_1908 Please to be ignoring the mitre saw and the ugly, ugly fan. The saw is for the quarter round, the fan is a work in progress ;)

Managed to work a half day Saturday, come home, paint up a storm in the Living Room, lay down for a 2 hour nap before an evening out hunting good photos….and then we woke up 12 hours later.

Oops!

Well…at least the Living Room looks AWESOME.

I’m paint and so can you

Next on the Living Room todo list was to spackle, tape and paint the walls. After a kind soul lent us an 8′ ladder (thank you Freecycle!) in order to reach the high end of our sloped ceilings, the Wee-b managed to finish taping up the room last week.

We picked up 2 gallons of paint in our new favourite colour (Behr – Dolphin Fin) with the thought that we would probably need a third, but it was better to wait and see. Woke up yesterday morning bright and early and got to work!

img_1871

1 coat down…one to go. And…we only managed to use one gallon for the entire room. I have NO idea how that happened.

img_1874

P.S. I love you frog tape.

Enter the dragon

We dropped the Wee-b’s son off to his Grandparents house last weekend – it was so nice to get out of town for a day or two :) We took the pupster with us and he had an absolute blast running around the yard chasing bumblebees!

But…now that he’s gone for the entire summer, we have a list a mile long to get cracking on. This weekend we will be working on painting the Living Room, but that means we have to get everything prepped. So every night this week i have something that needs to be done…

Tuesday/Wednesday – Clean the kids room and bathroom without the use of a quarantine zone
Thursday – Finish washing the Living Room walls
Friday – Tape off the Living Room
Saturday/Sunday – Paint, paint, paint!

Wish me luck!

State of the concrete address

img_17600501

2/3 of the way done! We have managed to chip out most of the edges, so we just need to head back towards the door, smooth it all out with concrete filler and we’re golden.

Easy. As. Pie.

And for your sides?

Remember way back when, when i mentioned how much i loved this look:

ladder-table-lamp_300 © Real Simple

Well i knew i would eventually figure out a way to make it work without making it cost a fortune or involve some crazy eBay antique ladder back alley deal. The wee-b finally suggested looking at Ikea for step ladders to see if they had anything interesting, after i complained again about the ladders i was finding being upwards of $40 each…and not in stock…and additional shipping charges, etc. etc.

That’s when we came across these mighty guys:

bekvam

I had thoughts of painting them the same colour as the room and sanding them back to give them a bit of a rough look….but the wee-b and i eventually decided on staining them for a more ‘woody’ look (Definitely a technical term).

I grabbed a container of Miniwax Express Color to test out, figuring that if it came out too dark, I could always sand the piece back and start again. Never done that before…but there’s always a first time, right? Sure. Luck was on my side as the Bekvam stools actually came unfinished so i was able to dive straight in!

miniwax

I really didn’t want the stain to be overly dark or anywhere near the “Emerald” as shown. So i decided to paint each piece of wood with a coat of water first, making the assumption that the more moist the wood was, the less stain it would soak up.

Luckily, this time my assumption was right.

Roses I tell you.

And we ended up with this bad boy:

…and two really fabulous side tables :-)
