Apart from the gardening we have also made a few other small changes around the place, including painting the small section of concrete on the front porch.

We ended up going with Valspar Latex Porch & Floor Paint, which was actually a brilliant product and after two coats, the front porch looked awesome. We had to use an etching product on the area to be painted and then the first coat of paint was thinned with water according to the instructions.

It’s not quite as peach coloured as it looks in the picture – more of a light terracotta in person…and a hell of a lot better than boring concrete

As you can see, we also picked up an additional whiskey barrel planter to use in the corner for our new plant – palms frites. We give a lot of weird names to a lot of strange things around here..

Heading in through the front door, the Mum also helped me re-merch the weirdo shelves that are visible as you first come inside. Originally i believe these shelves were actually a doorway into what is now the Den. Somewhere in between the house being a rental and then being put up for sale, they have blocked the doorway and hidden whatever mess is behind it with funny looking shelving. It’s cute though – I have my didgeridoo on display there, along with other odds and sods that have been gifts or picked up around the place.

Last time we were at Home Depot we stumbled across the macrame hangers and Mum thought that they would be perfect for two smaller plants to hang in the larger sections. BEHOLD!

She was correct.

But wait! What is that peeking out from the top shelf?

Ahh…our cake topper. A gift from the best man and proudly displayed on top of our red-velvet cupcakes at the wedding. Apparently it was a bit of a gag gift, but I thought it was absolutely brilliant and so did everyone else!
