Shhh! Do you smell something?

Over the last month and a bit, there have been a lot of changes at the Strewth house.

The kid has come back to live with us full time…and that on its own has bought a slew of changes…and a hell of a lot more laundry! We have adopted a gluten free diet (the kid is gluten and dairy free) in order to assist with his Aspergers diagnosis. Truth be told, the change in diet seems to be REALLY helping. And honestly, going gluten free really isn’t that difficult. In fact…we are now eating a LOT more fresh veggies and fruit than we ever were before.

After school snacks took a little more research, but I ended up buying a neat basket from Target and filling it up with all sorts of goodies like dried seaweed (a big favourite), air popped popcorn, Felafel chips (thanks Trader Joes!!) and small servings of almonds.

We are still having a lot of fun trying to work out different recipes. I made a 5lb batch of gluten-free granola over the weekend that is absolutely DELICIOUS. The big one at the moment, is finding a gluten-free bread recipe that suits us. Paying over $5 for a loaf of bread (Udi’s I’m looking at you) that is 1/2 the size of a normal loaf is just not cutting it in our house…..we are not really wanting to go broke trying to keep a teenagers belly satisfied.

Another big change recently, is that i have decided to go back to Weight Watchers. My last roommate (Holllaaaaa Miss Meg!) and I went many years ago and between us we racked up over 100lbs lost. It was not easy, but in the long run it worked. The most annoying part is, over the last 2-3 years I have slowly put back on almost all of the weight I worked so hard to lose.

So i was in serious denial (not a river in Egypt) until I went for my yearly physical and my sweet, lovely Dr pointed out that i was edging myself into the OBESE range of the BMI scale.

OBESE. OH-BESE. OH-AREYOUEFFINKIDDINGME-BESE.

Game changer. That day I signed my ass back up for weight watchers and this will be my third week back in the program.

Last week (technically my first weigh-in) I managed to lose 2.4lbs. This week I am hoping to do something similar…but every week is just a step in the right direction for me. I have never been a teeny-tiny thin girl, but I have been a hell of a lot more healthy than i am now. My ultimate goal is to make my final goal weight (I will share that when i get there ;) ) and get lifetime status with weight watchers. That’s more of the cheapskate in me coming out, as after i get lifetime status I will no longer have to pay for meetings.

I know its not going to be easy…but I am thoroughly committed to this, and frankly…there’s just no stopping me.
