Had such a great weekend! Brian and I hit up some stores first thing on Saturday morning – Walmart for passport photos (and a new cell phone case – tinkerbell hollaaaa!), World Market for a little work research and some Violet Crumble! I also managed to pick up a jar of Birds Custard Powder – yum! The rest of Saturday was spent cleaning up outside, a little light gardening and some work on the never ending cross stitch, yo.

Sunday B and I headed out to Baltimore to meet up with an old High School friend of his. We met up at the American Visionary Arts Museum and stopped in at Mr Rain’s Fun House for lunch. Delicious food, great friends and an awesome museum to wander through. A perfectly spent Sunday :)

11. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
BBQ at the Aspen with soooooooo much help from Miss M and friends, to celebrate my 21st birthday!

12. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Perhaps greater success at work, but honestly I believe that everything happens for a reason and everything happens in its own time. I think that 2009 was pretty much perfect just the way it was.

13. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009?
Not so great. Miss M and I worked together on a weight loss campaign and we were both very successful, but that did lead to some large gaps in our wardrobes :)

14. What kept you sane?
Nothing. I don’t think i’ve ever been ‘sane’ and i prefer it this way ;)

15. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Hmm…perhaps James Roday. But i would much prefer the wee-b over anyone else.

16. What was your job this year?
Executive director of an Interior Design Studio – 2009 was my 7th year

17. Did you have any encounters with the police in 2009?
Uh..yes actually. When my tire exploded a nice MD police officer stopped to try and help.

18. Have you run into anybody you graduated high school with?
Not on this side of the world.

19. Describe your birthday.
Early morning silly string in my FACE courtesy of my bff (<3), love from the parents, surprise party at the office, dinner with Miss M, the GrillMasterTM and the Wee-b. Perfect Birthday.

20. Any new additions to your family?
This little purmonster.

Its been an interesting week so far…lots of cold weather, a winter storm advisory for this weekend. Busy busy business at work, strangeness at home and ultimately the realisation that i have lost friends. I have always moved through my life with the understanding that everything happens for a reason. If people come into my life at a certain point, they were meant to be there. Relationships start and end for specific reasons, even if they aren’t all that clear at that time. I look back now over the last 8 years and i can pinpoint certain people and relationships and its easier now (that the heartbreak has passed) to see why we were friends/partners/etc. even if it was only for a short time.

I’m so excited for the snow…even if i’m not excited about the driving aspect of it. I plan to go home this afternoon, park my car and not think about it all weekend :) Its funny, after growing up in a country where it very rarely gets cold enough to snow I still get giddy about the idea of a ‘white christmas’ here. I know most locals would just shake their heads at me, but to me there’s still something so magical about the snow…..well until it turns into brown mush :)

Home away from home..

Sometimes its funny the people that you meet, the ones that come into your life by accident that end up being life long friends. One of my favourite people in the entire world was my friend by accident…sitting in a uni lecture one day i turned around to find the guy behind me fashioning a noose for his pencil. From that day forward we were basically inseparable – mission impossible in the library, cha-cha on top of the tables in the ref. Wego years without seeing each other, but when we do catch up it’s like i only saw him yesterday. Steve has been on my mind a lot this past week….i’m excited about coming home, not only to spend time with my family, but to be able to catch up with Steve and Mieke as well.

But then i think about all the people i have met by accident here too and i realize that i have gathered quite the family. Nothing will ever replace my home….but i am actually truly happy here. Really happy. And i think that’s a good thing.

Independence…yay!

4th of July was a blast. The plan was as follows…wake up, drink as much coffee as humanly possible (it’s more than you think), start tearing apart corns and wait for Miss M to get home. In the meantime our basement dweller slunk out of his dark depressive dungeon and came up with plans for boiling then broiling ribs. We got our act, lists and butts together and took off to the store for a group shopping activity.

Oh…did I mention my choice of clothes for the day?

Outfit for the win!
(Don’t mind the mess….we were still in the middle of prep when I showed my outfit to Miss M…I’m surprised she was able to take a straight photo :P )

As a foreigner celebrating in another country, I had to represent…and not only does that involve standing up for my country and our excessive beer drinking habits, but it also means donning the outfit of celebration. All i was missing was the cork hat and a pair of stubbies. Next year I will be better prepared.

After a bit of a mishap in the Kitchen (imagine a fire in the oven and lots of black “snow” in the entire house) we managed to get our act together and the brauts and ribs were ready to go. We dragged everything downstairs to the backyard and the Grill MasterTM took up residence in front of the bbq and got to work.

The extended fam showed up and we consumed 29835 sausages and just about as many cans/bottles of beer :) Giz may have gotten a little saucy…

4th July Giz

All in all a lot of fun. And i didn’t even get threatened with Gitmo. Well not more than once twice

I think this picture well and truly sums up my night last night. Close friends, beer, great food (tater tots!!!) and lots and lots of laughs. I haven’t laughed that hard or that long in ages.
