You know those days, when you think you are almost on top of things and then all of a sudden your kitchen and laundry are pretending they are the shallow end of the pool? No? It’s just me then.
A couple of Saturdays ago, our afternoon carried on like any other…I threw a load of laundry in and grabbed another coffee before I headed to complete my chore of annoying the dog. About midway through the laundry cycle I heard a crash, but figured it was the basket toppling off the top of the machine again and I made a mental note to find another resting spot for it. B, however, headed to the laundry to investigate the sound.
Thats when he let out the cry for towels & backup! Ugh. I ran with all my might and swept over the doggy gate in one graceful bound (Well not really…but that was about the last thing that happened that weekend that could even remotely be considered graceful ). There in our kitchen, the sink was full of…. water, the outlet pipe at the back of the washing machine was adding more to the mix and the dishwasher was trying to join in the fun. We managed to corral it all with a wall made from towels and then took a moment to come up with a plan.

Home Depot! he yelled and we were off. It wasn’t our only visit to big orange that day…or the next. We are quite well known there. So a plunger, some draino and a snake later, we decided to admit defeat.
But! As always….yelp is your friend (also, so are towels). Even at 3:45pm on a Sunday, there is a lovely plumber who is willing to take your hard earned cash and fix a problem for you. Our problem? Oh…the pipe under our house that runs from the kitchen to the bathrooms had a lovely big dip in it. Whomever took such great care to install it in the first place made the pipe too long.
Our awesome Sunday plumber fixed the clog and promised to come back during the week to replace the pipe. And that he did! He was also kind enough to leave said pipe in our backyard.
Sometimes…just sometimes…bigger isn’t always better.
