So while i am busy waiting for the floor to dry i have been coming up with all sorts of different ideas on what to do with our Living Room area once its all back together. It’s a bit of an odd space….I guess if we were more formal people we could have turned it into a formal dining room with a small entertainment area, but thats not really our style…so we have to come up with some alternate options. One idea i had was to create two different spaces and use a sectional sofa to create almost a ‘soft’ divide between the two.
I threw together a bit of an idea in a design board – this is made up of both pieces we own and ideas of things we would like to purchase.
The flooring that we ended up going with really isn’t as red as shown here. It’s a warm dark brown with some red in it, but nowhere near the mahogany color shown here. So in the furthest point of the room the Wee-b and I already have the Expedit unit from Ikea. For the last couple of months we have had it in this space and we had it turned on its side as we were no longer using it as a TV unit. It’s really kind of neat – allows for tall pieces and even wine storage in the TV space.
The sectional sofa here is an idea of what we are going for. I want the back of the sectional to run along the wall where we had the sofa before and the extending arm would come out to almost divide the room. Then we just need to add some kind of coffee table or storage ottoman and the Wee-b came up with the idea of getting together a bunch of floor cushions for those that lose at musical chairs. We also already own two of the Lack side tables which are perfect for additional table top space at either end of the sectional.
I totally heart that rug. Heart. Heart. Heart. But before any rug decisions get made, we need to make a decision on the direction for the sofa so that we can get an awesome rug that is not overly huge. But yeah. That rug right there? It’s mine. LIPS!
But what’s that table and chair doing up in the corner there? Oh you noticed that? Uhh..well…i had a brainwave yesterday (HAR HAR!) when i was trying to think of what we could do with the other end of the room and i realized that we (as a family and with the rest of my favourite nerds) love playing games. What better to do with the other end of the room, but to add some sort of multi functional table that could be used for reading, playing games, doing puzzles, etc.! I haven’t laid out all the furniture to scale yet, but i think there’s also a possibility that the sofa we currently own could also fit in that space without having it be too overcrowded. But we’ll see….at the moment its new home will be in the Den where it shall be subjected to numerous hours of intensive game playing by the littleb.
So thats the whole kit and kaboodle for now…next on the to-do list however, is finishing up the laying of the floor and we are planning to work on that this weekend.
Stay tuned for more of our misadventures
