So my other plan for the Kitchen/Dining Room area is to add something to the blank wall that we have in that room.
I was originally thinking of purchasing a free standing buffet/credenza piece, but after not really finding anything that i love that also lives within my budget….i decided to do a little extra hunting around. Once again this called for my thinking cap (good thing it doesn’t really get a lot of wear!) and the help of a few other do-it-yourselfers..
Enter Anna of Door Sixteen one of my new favourite blogs and also the person who is now solely responsible for the word-tastrophe that is Fauxdenza. Don’t you love it? Not only is this so clean and contemporary, but the whole project can be completed for under $200….AND it involves a trip to Ikea. And we all know that that makes any project a must-do.
After finding the post on Anna’s site, I did some further searching and found some other peoples takes on the whole floating credenza thing, using Ikea cabinets. One of the things I love is that by having the credenza ‘float’ on the wall, it acts to open up the space more and will give the illusion of the room being slightly bigger than it is. Our Dining Room is certainly not teeny-tiny, but i know that once we add this to the wall and bring the table out in to the room a bit more, we will need any illusion we can conjure up.
Anna used three of these cabinets:
But after measuring up the space we have on that wall, we only have about 62″ to play with….so we’re going with two. And i believe that there is a car ride to Ikea in the works for this weekend. Question. Is it smart to go to Ikea when they have Christmas stuff out?
Don’t answer that.
