tall order

Is it that much to ask to have someone show up when they say they will? I mean i know that as humans we are inherently selfish, but holy cow this is ridiculous.

Miss M and i have been hunting for a new roommate now since the beginning of January. We got stuck with basement dweller for longer than we thought as he just wouldn’t leave, but now that he’s out we can’t seem to get anyone else in! People seem to be really interested in the ad and we have had at least 6 people make appointments to come by and see the space….and then no-one shows up.

This. This i just don’t understand. They have my contact details and i have theirs….but of course no-one answers the phone when its 30 minutes past the time they were meant to be there. It’s not a huge deal, but it IS a big waste of my time and Miss M’s.

Ugh. I guess i just don’t understand how difficult it is for someone to say ‘hey! sorry about this, but i found somewhere else to move so i won’t be coming by’. Not a big deal…but it certainly stops us from hanging around waiting for someone who is never going to show up. I think it just comes down to common courtesy…something that a LOT of people i’ve come in contact with recently, seem to be lacking.

Well…we have someone else “coming to look at the space” tomorrow. Fingers crossed that they show up.

Wee-b is convinced that the basement dweller cursed the basement space ;-)

Wurm..

After work on Saturday I went for a walk down to the new(ish) yarn store in Old Town – Fibre space. I had a pattern in mind that I had found on Ravelry a few months ago…the Wurm (pls note – links to a .pdf file) :)

The store itself is totally awesome, a very warm welcoming environment…for the first time in a knitting store i actually felt comfortable enough to browse as long as i wanted. I had actually spotted the yarn i ended up buying right as I walked in the store, but i decided to keep looking in case something else grabbed my fancy :) I was taken by a few other yarns, but i think i will save my pennies and go back again in a month or two to get more pretties..

This is the beautiful hand-dyed Madelinetosh yarn that i ended up getting for my new hat. I grabbed a set of dpn’s as well as some interchangeable circular needles, which i need for this project and will certainly be handy to have in the future. I cast on over the weekend and am actually speeding through the beginning of the pattern – this was after I made the Wee-b sit with his arms outstretched for half an hour as I hand-wound the yarn into a ball. I think i may need to look into a ball winder for the future. Knitting on four dpn’s always seems so daunting, but after a while you hit a bit of a rhythm and it all comes together. Soon i can switch over to the circular needles which makes things a lot easier and a hell of a lot faster.

It feels good to be knitting again. Last weekend I managed to finish a third mouse fillet, so I just need to felt and stuff them, then I can send them off to their new homes. According to others who have knitted the Wurm, its a fairly straight forward and fun pattern so I’m looking forward to getting it finished so that I can wear it before winter is all over red rover.

G’MORNING!

How can you not love this smiling face in the morning?

Sometimes it just hurts

My weekend in photographs

I have the mad love for my iphone and the photos it takes…Mad. Love.

photo-5_0 The boy and i stopped by the grocery store on Friday night for a few necessary supplies. This was not one of them…but i did find it quite amusing.

photo-2 This is the look we get from that stinky dog when we’re all watching TV and perhaps making a little too much noise for someone’s liking.

photo-4 A week and a bit after the first snow dumping and Blue Steel is still covered. Thats at least 5′ of snow covering up all four sides….at least i can see a little bit peeking through.

photo-1 My special valentine :) He took me and the littleb to the Original Pancake House for valentines day. Ukosjldknfn…so good.

photo_0 This was the scene in the back seat on the way home. I think the littleb was food-ed out and the Giz was just happy to have him back in the car to cuddle with.

Snow out.

First day back at work after being snowed in over the (long) weekend.  I had a feeling that the Aspen was going to be kind of crazy this morning with the impacted snow/ice up the hill, so I checked in with my boss to make sure that it would be okay for the Giz to come to work with me for the day.

photo4

He was so excited to be coming to work with me this morning, I told him that he would see aunt Yve and his ears perked right up.  He managed to get in the office, sniff out every single little corner, then he made a big nest out of his blanket and spent the rest of the day snoring.

Some dogs get all the luck.

My main goal is to buy my first home with the Wee-b and to have my parents over to stay. Everything should be complete by the middle of the year :)

Sleepy Giz

This was the scene last night. We’ve been snowed in since Friday night and the Giz has been living it up! Not too often does he get the chance to (basically) sleep for 3 days straight. We did have to sneak him out out the apartment a few times so that he could go to the bathroom, but other than that he was pretty much content to lie in bed or sit with the littleb

At this point, it has not been snowing for more than 24 hours….but we are apparently expecting more snow on Tuesday and Wednesday. They haven’t spelled out details as of yet so who knows. I’m sure it won’t be as much as we received this weekend (which incidentally, came up to my knees!) well, one can only hope.

We spent today mostly holed up in the house again. A little TV, half of Wolf Creek and a lot of Zelda: Spirit Tracks. Now it’s time for the Puppy Bowl!

My parents every single year the answer to this should be Nana Margie and Poppy Jack.

photo-6 The Mo man with a mac-wig

The snow began falling yesterday around 11am, but it really didn’t start sticking until later in the afternoon. My awesome boss sent me home just before 2 and I jumped in the car to go and pick up the Wee-b.

We went back to the Aspen and picked up the naughty Giz and then headed in to Arlington to grab something to eat and check out the CD Cellar for cheap movies.

CD Cellar The CD Cellar :D

Good wine, fun times with the fam AND an episode of Ghost Hunters. Who could ask for anything more? Last year taught me many things, yet last night i learnt the most important. I am happy, content, loved and exactly where i want & need to be.

11. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
BBQ at the Aspen with soooooooo much help from Miss M and friends, to celebrate my 21st birthday!

12. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Perhaps greater success at work, but honestly I believe that everything happens for a reason and everything happens in its own time. I think that 2009 was pretty much perfect just the way it was.

13. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009?
Not so great. Miss M and I worked together on a weight loss campaign and we were both very successful, but that did lead to some large gaps in our wardrobes :)

14. What kept you sane?
Nothing. I don’t think i’ve ever been ‘sane’ and i prefer it this way ;)

15. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Hmm…perhaps James Roday. But i would much prefer the wee-b over anyone else.

Not on this side of the world.

19. Describe your birthday.
Early morning silly string in my FACE courtesy of my bff (<3), love from the parents, surprise party at the office, dinner with Miss M, the GrillMasterTM and the Wee-b. Perfect Birthday.

20. Any new additions to your family?
This little purmonster.
Mr Henry Investigates

Its been an interesting week so far…lots of cold weather, a winter storm advisory for this weekend. Busy busy business at work, strangeness at home and ultimately the realisation that i have lost friends. I have always moved through my life with the understanding that everything happens for a reason. If people come into my life at a certain point, they were meant to be there. Relationships start and end for specific reasons, even if they aren’t all that clear at that time. I look back now over the last 8 years and i can pinpoint certain people and relationships and its easier now (that the heartbreak has passed) to see why we were friends/partners/etc. even if it was only for a short time.

I’m so excited for the snow…even if i’m not excited about the driving aspect of it. I plan to go home this afternoon, park my car and not think about it all weekend :) Its funny, after growing up in a country where it very rarely gets cold enough to snow I still get giddy about the idea of a ‘white christmas’ here. I know most locals would just shake their heads at me, but to me there’s still something so magical about the snow…..well until it turns into brown mush :)

img_0066 Seen Monday night on the way home from work..

So it appears that someone is planning on dumping a buttload of snow on our fine city this weekend. We had a teensy bit of snow on Monday night…but now they are saying that we could have between 12-18″ of snow beginning at midday tomorrow. Looks like everyone might get snowed in over the weekend…i dread to even think what the grocery store may look like this evening, luckily the Wee-b and i got most of our shopping for the week done last night. Plenty of food to keep us warm and happy over the weekend, so that we don’t have to resort to gnawing on the puppy.
