Bros and bros

Games night with my boys, always my favourite night :)

Tonight began with Maniha and his AMAZING bbq pork. Damn dude. This stuff was so awesome it killed buns. This was kind of the aftermath shot…when we were trying to divide up the leftovers. Keep in mind that i am using the term ‘leftovers’ very loosely. This was a giant crockpot FULL TO THE BRIM with goodness. I don’t even think we managed to get more than an inch deep with our two rounds of sandwiches.

Smallworld. Lots of fun. This was just the setup and Mr Jordan taking us through the rules. This was actually a super speedy game once we got through the first round and figured out how the play went. Days of Wonder definitely know how to put together a great game.

This was from about halfway through the game when Maniha was just about to lay the smack down on all of us with his army of the undead. All i had were a couple of stinky Halflings weilding sharp knives, sausages and a wheel of cheese. Don’t ask me, i don’t know.

Miss ThingTM. She had a LOT to say last night, and while i don’t quite speak her language, what i do know is that she used a lot of words that I would have had my mouth washed out with soap for. Naughty girl ;)

Doing time

Headed out to the Freo Prison this morning with Poppy Jack. It was really interesting to go through the old jail and see some of the cells and the evidence that has been left behind over the years.

One of the first things we saw, before the tour had even started, was a matchstick model of the entrance to the prison that looks remarkably like some work that a gentleman my father knows, through his days of working at the Army museum, and who is serving a life sentence in Casuarina prison. I pointed it out to my father and although there was no ‘artist’ listed, the plaque did note that it had been done by a Casuarina inmate who was currently serving a life sentence..

We then got picked up by our tourguide, who was quite knowledgeable and very funny, who began us on our tour by asking us all to strip down so that we could don our prison greens before we went any further…noone really took him up on his offer.

Artwork Artwork painted on the walls in the Division 2 exercise yard. This has remained largely untouched since the prison was closed in 1991.

Church Its hard to see, but the 6th commandment actually reads “though shalt not commit murder” as opposed to “though shalt not kill” as when this was originally painted, the WA government was unable to say ‘do not kill’ as they were still putting prisoners to death in the prison system.

Fun! Used for floggings! Prisoners were strapped into this, back facing outwards, and were then flogged with a Cat-o-nine tails for as many lashings as they had been sentenced. After about 5 lashings, sat was rubbed into the wounds to prevent infections. Lovely!

Nice view Fourty-four people total were hung at the Fremantle Prison, from 1889 until the last hanging in 1964. A total of 43 men and 1 woman (who was there for asking her step children to gargle with hydrochloric acid) were hung in this time.

On the way out of the prison, Poppy Jack stopped one of the tour guides and asked about the matchstick model we had seen on the way in. She didn’t know much about it, but suggested we talk to Dave who was now a tour guide but had actually been employed at the prison in 1950 (through to 1991 i believe). He confirmed that it had definitely been done by Jim Tilbury and him and dad had a talk back and forth about his time in the jail there. Apparently his weapon of choice was a stocking leg. Urk!

can you get that fly?

Fun with the boys last night :)

Wee-b, Mr Jordan, Maniha and I all headed out to Galaxy Hut for a few bevvies. T’was good to catch up with the nerds, it’s been a while since our last games night but Mr Jordan did mention that he had just received some new games that sounded like they needed a test drive (or two..).

Wee-b and i headed back to his house and he got his chef on while I pestered the kid about his homework. Things got a little heated when the homemade sauce managed to half set off the fire alarm – hee! Wee-b pulled off the cover and couldn’t find a battery….i shoved him out of the way and had a look myself…really no battery. But there was several nice notes marking different sections of the alarm as radioactive material and to not touch. Oops. Well…nothing has fallen off yet….i’ll give it a couple more days ;)

Drag me to where?

America and i went out for a beer last night after i finished work and he was done playing with his phone. We ended up at Murphys where America pulled out a gift card for the movie theatre…so one beer turned into three beers and a free movie!

We ended up heading out to see Drag Me To Hell

Seriously. Awesome. A fun night with the nerd, which included but was not limited to beers, thumb war practicing, popcorn throwing, jumping and seal breaking.

The perfect Friday evening.

My list for today

I feel like i am finally on the right track. There have been so many signs for me, even in the last 2 days, that i would have had to been completely dead not to have seen. My thirtieth year has been a good one, not great…but i have definitely learnt a lot about myself. I think im really looking forward to being 31.

So here’s my list of happy for today..

  1. I am now the fourth nerd :-) I was invited into the fold of nerds at G’s house. This week we did Wolverine…next week is Star Trek and then we’ll go back to nerding at G’s
  2. Matthew is in town and that means I get to see him and his wife (been way too long already Perth boy) tonight, which leads me to..
  3. Bourbon Briday!
  4. And last but not least…getting asked out on 2 different dates in less than 24 hours :-) I have a feeling this whole 12 months thing is going to be fun!!

I am the walrus

Last night Miss M and i went out with the rest of the nerds to go and see Wolverine. You know….showing support for my people and all that…or something.

For the record…Hugh Jackman…Hottt (yes…three t’s). Picture the row of us, one nerd then myself and Miss M then the other three nerds rounding out the end of the row. At one point in the movie, mr hottie-mc-hairy comes out in a pair of pj bottoms only and both Miss M and i at the same time utter “oooh!” then the girlfriend came out and wrapped her arms around him and collectively we said “oh!”. Cue laughing from all the nerds.

At least we find ourselves funny :-)

This morning i had to get up and take the little stinky one to the vet. For the last week he has been having an issue with one of his ears so I had a fair idea that he probably had another ear infection. I absolutely adore my vet, not only do they really care about giving you all the information you need and taking care of the animals that come in, but they are also a completely open practice which means that everything is done in front of you and they really encourage owner participation – knowing that this can sometimes calm the animal down. I think Giz is mainly a big fan of them because they all dote on him and give him lots of treats when he’s in there.

So antibiotics, instructions for benadryl, fish oil(!) and a topical cream later we got to work. His status now? Please seeĀ  below…
